Apple gives us the skinny

Today at the 2008 Macworld expo in San Francisco, Apple CEO Steve Jobs turned his competition on its ear by unveiling the world's thinnest, sleekest notebook computer yet: the Macbook Air, measuring a meager 0.76 inches thick and weighing about 3 pounds.

If you think the Macbook Air achieved its slim silhouette by skipping a few meals, think again: it maintains all the major capabilities of Apple's other notebooks, rearranged into a package sleek enough to slip into a Marc Jacobs tote.

Now that's the kind of technology a girl on the go can really appreciate!

Holiday ornament 2.0

This week marks the sixth anniversary of the miniscule marvel that forever changed the way we experience music: the iPod.

On October 23, 2001, Apple shocked the techno world by announcing a different kind of digital audio player, one that used a hard disk for storage and was designed for convenience, power, and ease of use. The first model (codenamed Dulcimer) offered a whopping 5 GB of storage (enough for about 1,000 songs) and was only compatible with Macintosh computers.

In April 2007, Apple announced that the 100 millionth iPod had been sold, and the hot little number now accounts for over 25 percent of the company's earnings.

Just Beneath: Blutetooth

Alright, so it might not be up there with the light bulb, but wow is this little contraption delicious. For those of you still not in the know, Bluetooth's a technology that allows you to connect wirelessly to a cell phone, and though it has many other applications such as printing and music streaming, the celly is definitely it’s partner in crime. You simply hit a few buttons to pair the device with your phone, and presto. You’re now ready to chat hands free just about anywhere.

Now the jury might still be out on whether or not Bluetooth's for the betterment of society. After all, how much disconnect can society stand if we’re not even connected to the one device promising to keep us connected to the disconnect of our everyday lives? But I think back to the pre-blue days, and blinking ears aside, this little kitten really seems to reconnect me. In fact, it works so well I’m almost too connected. I've been calling everyone, everyone’s been calling me, and because it’s so easy to talk I’m spending all day yapping and I’m not getting any work done. All it does is blink and blink, ring and ring...

If only there was a way to stay connected while being disconnected at the same time?
