Fashion says "au revoir" to a legend

Over the weekend, the fashion world said goodbye to one of the most influential designers of the 20th century: the inimitable Yves Saint Laurent, who died at his home in Paris at age 71.

"For more than 40 years, Saint Laurent captivated the world of fashion and beyond," noted Women's Wear Daily, "with an extraordinary repertoire marked by his unique color sense, provocative androgyny and passion for fantasy."

The next time you slip into an elegant pair of satin trousers for a formal event or top off a spring ensemble with a chic safari jacket, you can give a nod to M. Saint Laurent, who was largely responsible for bringing pants to evening wear and turning daytime jackets into fashion statements, among countless other accomplishments.

Au revoir, Yves. And merci beaucoup.
